Assam is the gateway of the north eastern state of the country and is gifted with greenery, fertile plains, the huge Brahmaputra River, a beautiful sweep of hills, the enormous mountains, green tea gardens, and also rich in flora and fauna.The state Assam is the paradise home for varied and rare wildlife species, from splendid scenery to vivid cultures and soul stirring places of pilgrimage making it a perfect tourist destination places.

Assam, the north – eastern sentinel of the frontiers of India and is State richly endowed with places of tourist attraction. Located in the Himalayan foothills, Assam is known as the land of huge hills and big rivers. It is one of the most pleasing and beautiful regions of India. There is hardly any other state which has great variety and color in its natural greenery and in the wide cultural treasures of the people that inhabit it. There are a wide variety of tourist attractions in Assam. This is one of the most attractive regions of India where history unites with myths and religion, spectacular gifts of nature come in the shape of wooded hills and valley and the mountains. Rich in flora and fauna, rarely available elsewhere, add the variety of tourist attractions in Assam.

River Brahmaputra which flows from the middle of the State is reckoned amongst the world’s most sublime rivers and is natural sparkling futures of the State. The river sweeps gracefully through the entire length of the Brahmaputra valley.

It is the life line for the people of Assam flooding both the sides of the river bringing foodstuffs and vegetables to grow, generating life for the people. Such life bears no barriers as what caste they have, what religion they belong to the community, tribes, castes and they think and work like Assamese. This unity and diversity are reflected in their unique culture called Bihu.

Handloom of Assam is famous for its various types of silk that are produced here. The most renowned silk type is the Muga, the Golden silk. Muga silk is only found in Assam , making it more exclusive and sought after. There are other forms of silk as well like Eri or Endi, and Pat (mulberry). Assam also has the largest number of weavers in the country. Many industries have come up in the state but they don’t come even close to the demand created by the handmade textiles in the global market scenario. The tradition of handlooms has stayed alive through the many tribes that are residing in the state.Sualkuchi is the place located in Assam where the world famous Assam silk is grown. Wide range, such as, Golden Silk Muga, the White Pat and the warm Eri are grown here. It is located at a distance of nearly 30 km from Guwahati. This village is called the Manchester of the East. What is striking is that the entire population of the village is engaged in weaving silk fabrics. Amongst all varieties of silk that are grown here the best is Muga Silk or Muga Silk. The golden silk of Assam is unique to this state.

The moment you step in Assam, you get to notice the different forms of arts and crafts that exist in the state. Every single item that you see on the walls and windows of homes are a perfect example of the state's traditional arts and crafts. You must have seen similar items produced in other parts of the world as well, but none are as original and creative as the articles you find in Assam.

Thus it can be said that Assam is well gifted by nature in all the ways be it natural beauty, devise culture, ethnic tradition or be its artist and sculptors. Making it an idle tourist destination.
